The Art of Seeing:
COMPOSITION 101 FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

In the Art of Seeing workshop, we will learn simple design elements that will transform you into a better photographer, no matter what type of photography you do. Create images with impact that communicate your ideas more effectively. Make an investment in photo skills that you will use for the rest of your life.

Session One:
Looking at examples of some key elements of design from art, graphic design, photography, architecture and more.
Session Two:
Shooting assignments that incorporate photographic design elements into your images.
Session Three:
Viewing your work in class critiques that will be upbeat, encouraging and best of all  FUN. Last session includes a print of your work.

Best for: digital or film photographers with intermediate camera skills and any level of design and composition experience. Mobile phone cameras ok.

A NIGHT AND LOW-LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

In this DARKNESS REVEALED workshop, you will experience the thrill and magic of photographing at night. Learn some basic exposure techniques guaranteed to help you create exciting images at night and in low-light situations.

Session One:
At Photolab We will look at some well-known night photos for inspiration and ideas for night and low light photography. Then we will discuss unique characteristics of low-light photographic images. I'll demonstrate some techniques you will use for our local field trip the following week at the UC Berkeley Campus

Session Two:
We will meet at 7 pm on the UC BERKELEY CAMPUS and do an actual night shoot there. (Sunset is at 7:53pm)

Session Three:
Back at Photolab. We will meet back at Photolab in Berkeley to review the photo images you made on the UC Campus. We'll also learn a few additional techniques (using flashlights and flash attachments off the camera) to enhance your low-light photos and expand your technical toolkit.

Best for: photographers with a comfortable working knowledge of their digital or film camera and intermediate photography skills. Mobile phone cameras not recommended
