The Picturish Gallery presents work by eight Bay Area photographers, students at Laney College:

The exhibit promotes the fine art of black and white film and the silver gelatin print. The photographers are all advanced students of Michael Moya, Laney Photo Department instructor and a working professional photographer in the San Francisco Bay Area. All eight have been serious photographers for many years; several are professionals.

The Laney photographers, chose the once ubiquitous (now increasingly rare) silver gelatin print as the ideal medium for their fine art photography. Working with master photographer Michael Moya, they made darkroom silver gelatin prints from their work in experimental landscapes, contemporary still lifes, portraits and urban street environments, all using black and white film.

As much as we all love a professional photo lab to print our work at its best (shameless plug), this exhibit is about what the photographers have done by their own hands. The darkroom has made everyone of the eight stronger photographers as a result of the effort it takes to bring a negative image to life as a strong image. This is work you need to see if you are a serious photographer.

The exhibit will run from August 7 to September 18, 2010 at the Picturish Gallery, 2235 Fifth Street in Berkeley.

The exhibit is open to the public, accessible and free of charge.
